Compatibility with EL family

Hi there,

We are a hosting company, we use cPanel mostly but every once in a while we support some community projects or are asked about low-budget solutions and for those we end setting up some free panel. We've used Vesta for a while on a customer, but there were some pesky bugs we've found we weren't very fond of so that was only one time.

We have another prospect now and we're again looking into VestaCP. I believe enough time has passed so probably things had gone a little better.

As you all are probably aware, CentOS 8 Linux has been shot dead and the CentOS Stream and the new lifecycle puts CentOS on a pre-production level. So when we upgraded our servers we went for Oracle Linux (which we were already using with our clustered DB servers). In the meanwhile we have also tested AlmaLinux for some web-servers (and its the new default for cPanel too).

These are both Enterprise Linux systems, rpm, they really don't differ much from each other.
So, the problem with VestaCP and AlmaLinux is that VestaCP doesn't recognise the OS from `/etc/os-release`. Is there any way to tell the OS when invoking the installer to bypass this issue?

The issue with VestaCP and Oracle Linux apparently is that VestaCP doesn't find `epel-release`. Well, `epel-release` on Oracle Linux is `oracle-epel-release-el8`. It is installed, but the installer doesn't proceed.

I would appreciate some insight on either workarounds for this, or to know if the VestaCP team is considering adding compatibility for these systems. Thank you.
