What is more efficient for WordPress Hosting
What is more efficient for WordPress Hosting
Hello Folks, I would like to hear your opinion on that. It is more efficient if I use apache + nginx or nginx + php-fpm?
Re: What is more efficient for WordPress Hosting
Its very much a personal preference. I used Apache initially (as that was the only game in town ten years ago). Then a few years back I started running Wordpress on very small VMs, and nginx and php-fpm became my favourite option, although a little harder to get going. With the reduced footprint of nginx, my battles then moved to fighting mysql, which is another story.
Last year, I read an article about how a large majority of plugins for Wordpress assume that you're using Apache, and that they have access to an .htaccess file, and indeed a few of the plugins I was using, including the SECURITY ones were actually using .htaccess quite heavily, requiring me to write my own, translated rules into the nginx config.
So now I use Apache to serve the PHP, with nginx in front as a proxy, dealing with all the static files. And that's actually the thing that drew me to Vesta in the first place: it can handle this config out of the box. With it you get a compromise: nginx's speed with the static files, and Apache's .htaccess files for ease of configuration.
Just my opinion. Maybe it will change again next year ... :-)
