Dovecot: "Failed to write to main log (No space left on device)"
Dovecot: "Failed to write to main log (No space left on device)"
Every single morning, my dovecot service goes down and i need to start it again, and it is repeating day by day, so i was looking for some clue to find out why it was coming down, and i found that errors on the /var/log/maillog file:
"failed to write to main log: length=165 result=-1 errno=28 (No space left on device)"
"write failed on panic log: length=122 result=-1 errno=28 (No space left on device)"
And i see that the time when this error was displayed was the same time that the service goes down, so i see it as the reason of the problem.
By the way, i really dont know what is happening because when i type: df -h i can see:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/vda1 30G 27G 1.9G 94% /
tmpfs 499M 0 499M 0% /dev/shm
So the disk isnt full, and why this "no space left on device" warning ? I dont know what to try.
Note: this error started to happen since 2 weeks ago, but my server is running since more than 6 months.

Quota for user admin? In package may be?
Re: Dovecot: "Failed to write to main log (No space left on device)"
all the users have unlimited quota, so that isnt the problem.

As I can see you have posted this also on server fault. http://serverfault.com/questions/755240 ... -on-device
Your disk is almost out of space (No space left on device).
You need to add more disk space. I think one (or more) of your log files are big, every day when the logs are rotated there come some disk space free, but some time before the log rotation, you haven't enough space left. So upgrade your disk space is one of the only solutions I think.

A Log that have 3G? godness. Ok i'll get rid of some trash and junks and then lets see if it happens again, by the way i dont think so that is the problem, i cant believe that the logs can reach 3G bigger on one day.

It's not a big deal, when you have many requests or someone try to ddos your sites via requests.
