Have resolved this. One of my domains had proxy support deselected. I re-enable this and backups went through fine

EXIM not sending mail; messages are frozen and users get message saying it has been delayed. Happening on two freshly install Ubuntu servers. Exim log shows messages like R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp defer (-53): retry time not reached for any host and things like Connecting to alt4.gmail-smtp-in.l.goo...

On a new Ubuntu install I notice the firewall ports for the DB are open (3306,5432). I don't need to remotely connect to mysql, am I safe to disable this rule?
