If monitoring is important to you, why not monitor more than just apache and use Nagios (or any other good monitoring solution)?

You can't have both apache and nginx listening to the same port.
Use netstat -anp | grep httpd to see what ports apache is listening to.

Do you have experience with denyhosts? Does it work with vesta cp? You could have checked the requirements page on the deny hosts website, which mentions Python as a requirement. Imho everybody's just bitching and whining because they want the latest version. There's no reason concerning security, stability, or functionality that makes running 7 a vital must-have. CentOS 6 is stable, actively supported and EOL will be in another 6 years. The Vesta guys will obviously release...
