VestaCP, OpenVZ & Debian - experience
  • Quote

Post by c0urier » Sun May 18, 2014 6:57 am

Hi VestaCP,

My experience with VestaCP, OpenVZ and Debian wheezy x64, and what others could run into.

Firstly, to get VestaCP successfully installed I have to add "innodb_use_native_aio=0" to the my.cnf file to be able to start MySQL.
Secondly, I need to chmod the phpmyadmin tmp folder "chmod 777 /var/lib/phpmyadmin/tmp" to be able to use phpmyadmin to import databases.
Thirdly, I need to change the exim user in vesta's configuration from MAIL_SYSTEM='exim' to "MAIL_SYSTEM='Debian-exim'", to be able to receive mails.
Fourth, I am not able to get statistics to work, this I've seen others suffer with, more specificly I can't get my bandwidth counters to calculate used traffic per user. Graphs etc are working flawlessly.

That's my small summary with OpenVZ, Debian Wheezy and VestaCP. I tried the same installation on XenServer and here I didn't experience any issues at all nor on a KVM.

Very strange. I'm running Vesta in Wheezy / OpenVZ too and don't have any issues with bandwidth graphs not updating. I do have the issue that users can put more in their account then allowed (say quota of 50MB -> user can still upload file of 100MB and it stays in account), but that issue will be resolved with next update in a few days according to imperio :)

I don't recognize all the other issues you are having. MySQL works flawless (I switched to MariaDB now, because this works better on low end VPSes). How much RAM do you have? I have 1GB and 1GB vSwap and don't have any issues. Mail is also working perfectly (receive instantly).

6 GB Mem and 6 GB Swap.

If you noticed, I also posted how to fix it. It might be a configuration question of the host node. I am not able to tell, since I only rent the container.

It was not my intention to imply that you made mistakes. I just found it weird that it didn't work, as it all works on my VPS. Could well be a host config issue. :-)

No no, l think we reach a language barrier ;).
The differences is most likely related to the host node, I just wanted to share my experience if others ran into the same problems, since it took me a few minutes extra to get it installed correctly.
