If you're new, why you need to update mysql?rocky123xo wrote:I'm very new, sorry how do I do that??
Try some guides, like this - http://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2 ... -hat-rhel/ But I don't recommend make update, if you don't clearly know, why you need this. Use stable version and happiness will be with you ;)

Re: Update MySQL?
SQL Version 5.6 has new features that I need. 5.5 does not have them. Is it easy to just upgrade 5.5 to 5.6?

Re: Update MySQL?
What are the differences? Is MariaDB still SQL? I do not know.
Re: Update MySQL?
Wiki say: "MariaDB is a community-developed fork of the MySQL relational database management system intended to remain free under the GNU GPL. Being a fork of a leading open source software system, it is notable for being led by the original developers of MySQL, who forked it due to concerns over its acquisition by Oracle. Contributors are required to share their copyright with the MariaDB Foundation.
MariaDB intends to maintain high compatibility with MySQL, ensuring a "drop-in" replacement capability with library binary equivalency and exact matching with MySQL APIs and commands. It includes the XtraDB storage engine for replacing InnoDB, as well as a new storage engine, Aria, that intends to be both a transactional and non-transactional engine perhaps even included in future versions of MySQL."
