renaming user to overcome database length restriction

Post by peterb » Fri May 15, 2015 11:35 am

I searched for "rename user" but could not see any.

I have an issue where I have created a user with a longish name
17characterusername

all is fine except I can't add any database name, not even _1 as I presume it is too long :-(

How can I edit the user name?
Where is it stored?

Many thanks
Peter

the database user should be not longer than 16 characters (together with the prefix of user)

but if you want it so badly, there is not tested officially fix - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4927#p14320

@skurudo THANK YOU so much !

For speed I rebuilt the account, but it would be NICE if the limit was KNOWN at the point of account creation.

IMHO domain names are getting longer these days (due to competition) and it's natural to use a longer account name of it.

You need to know, it's mysql limitation and not recommended to use names longer.
