Home Server running VestaCP Killing internet
Hey Everyone, I'm new here from Australia... In need of some help.
I setup a server at home to run a couple of wordpress websites with low traffic about 2 months ago. It is running Centos7 and Vesta CP with 4 WP installations. My internet connection is 100/40 fiber so not the absolute best but sufficient to run a few wordpress sites.
Anyway in the last week i started to notice the internet at home would drop every 10 minutes or so, and it got worse and worse until it was basically unusable. At this point I unplugged the server and everything went back to normal. I've replaced the modem/router with a better one, and uninstalled some wordpress plugins and it's gone back to a drop about every 10 minutes. I checked access and error logs for every domain and there is nothing out of the ordinary (for 2 whole days there was less than 30 entries per domain).
Looking in the server tab i noticed that spamassassin was using 35gb of memory? (This server only has 12gb of memory...) I stopped spamassassin but the issue persists.
In the Graphs I noticed that the bandwidth was really high for tx at 31M KBytes/sec, the rx bandwidth usage is only 2700KBytes/sec.
This bandwidth usage seems to be quite consistent, spiking from 10M to 38M and settling around the 25M mark.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I've been looking and looking and am at my wits end about to start from scratch again with this server...
Appreciate any replies.
Cheers,

Re: Home Server running VestaCP Killing internet
So I've been running nethogs, and it seems my server is sending a whole bunch of requests (20-50 or more) to random IP's in china every 5-10 minutes. All on port 80 or Port 433.
Is this a virus, or something glitching? I have no idea.

Re: Home Server running VestaCP Killing internet
My outgoing data usage has been upwards of 60gb daily, with no actual website traffic...
Re: Home Server running VestaCP Killing internet
Clean up your server, looks like you've been hacked.
Re: Home Server running VestaCP Killing internet
I ended up wiping it and installing a fresh install of ubuntu. Much better now.
Re: Home Server running VestaCP Killing internet
I agree with @exclu254. You need to clean up your server to avoid future damage.
