Upload your backups to /backup or /home/backup. You can also try to upload as root user.

When you login as admin you start directory is your home directory (/home/admin) You need to change your location to /backup or /home/backup.

Maybe you need to learn more about the linux directory structure. http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/09/lin ... structure/

As "tjebbeke" told you if there is backup restore error why you not unzip your tar files and upload manually using winscp after creating same domain, if there is database file you can use phpmyadmin to restore it.
