Temporary URL
Temporary URL
Hallo,
Does anybody know how to check web site via temporary URL ?!
I saw some explanation with creating alias but It is not clear enough..
I have live domain under main user (admin) now when I am adding domain (website) under other users how I can check that site without live domains..?

Re: Temporary URL
Example:
we have main domain - demo.vestacp.com
added one more site - demosite.vestacp.com
and temp url for this demosite.vestacp.com will be demosite-vestacp-com.demo.vestacp.com
Of course you need correct A records in DNS or wildcard for main domain.

Re: Temporary URL
Correct me if I am wrong, but do you mean something like cPanel and Plesk's implimentations where they have something like:joni wrote:I have live domain under main user (admin) now when I am adding domain (website) under other users how I can check that site without live domains..?
http://HOSTNAME.PROVIDER.TLD/~user ?

Re: Temporary URL
It is pretty easy tho.
Let's introduce this method, this is not going to create a temp URL as CPanel does, instead this creates an alias (Under the apache config) that can be removed later if you don't need it, you can adjust vestacp to always create this temp url whenever a new Web domain is added, the format would be as follow:
my-site-com.topdomain.tld
Which is similar to use topdomain.tld/~user (to my opinion, the way vesta does it looks more cool :))
Now, the part to set it up.
Under VestaCP go to DNS, search for the domain that you'd like to use for temp urls and click on ''Add record''
Then on record type the symbol *
Type would be A
Value would be the primary IP where all your sites are being hosted at
Click on add to complete this step.
Now let's modify your primary IP under vesta.
Go to IP (Next to Packages) --> Click on Edit under your main IP and where it says Assigned domain (optional) add the domain name that will be hosting these URLs and save the settings, now create a new Web DNS and under the alias section you'll see that a new alias will be added to each Web domain.
Here is a short eg.
Let's supose that my business domain is coolhost.com and that a new customer will transfer his site from another company to us with the domain name clienthost.com, this customer would like to know if everything is properly working before changing the name servers so this will be my System setup to achieve this:
DNS record.
coolhost.com
* A points --> 192.168.1.150 (My primary IP where all users are hosted at)
Under the IP configuration I'll add my domain
192.168.1.150 --> coolhost.com
Hope this helps you.

Re: Temporary URL
This can be marked as solved as Joni was able to get it to work.
