Hello. I have several joomla websites on a managged vps with cPanel and private nameservers, and I want now to migrate this websites to a new vps unmanagged that I have for test purposes (now, cost reduction is necesary). I am searching a free administrator panel, and I have installed VestaCP for testing it. To install is very easy, however this panel is a bit odd for me.

I have setup defualt installation (Ningx+Apache), with Centos 7, and it has not php 7 option. To upgrade php is complicated, because it cause me problems with roundcube. I can not to login now in rondcube, becasuse VestaCP do not insert users in database (i have seen it empty on myphpadmin). Besides, i am having problems with SSL certificate for ports 8083 and webmail. Neither, i dont know how to install my websites over IP, provisionally, so that everything works well, before pointing the sites in production definitively. I know how to do this in cPanel ( ip/~username), but not in Vesta.

I need PHP 7.2, therefore I am thinking to remove VestaCP, and to reinstall it again with Ningx+PHP-FPM, according to board forum post "HOWTO: Install PHP7.0 or PHP 7.2 on CentOS 7", and to test if this way all my problems with roundcube disappear (is it compatible with joomla sites? I suppose so), because I could not to find a solution for Ningx+Apache, or Apache only.

There are official tutorials for all this issues and also, for securized the server, with the firewall? I am a newbie, and it is a bit hard for me to find solutions on forum boards. VestaCp is being more complicated than I had thought.

Thank you, and sorry for my poor english. ;) I am trying to learn in the best way that I can.

Hello Skizo,

Going from Managed to self-managed hosting is not an easy route. There is a lot of learning involved. VestaCP is a great panel... but for people who have basic operational knowledge of Linux and Web server stack. If you are completely blank on that... I advice that you first create a server, play around with one or two sites on it, learn the basics from VestaCP Forums and many more resources on the internet. Switch all your sites to it... only and only... when you are confident everything works as per your liking.

VestaCP is no magic... it is simply a great interface and that too free. We are here to help... but frankly, do not expect to be spoon fed with every task that you require. You can also buy Vesta Paid support or hire an experienced sysadmin that can setup your server as you need.

Good Luck
