while it is cool to have a "configurator" https://vestacp.com/install/ -> "Advanced install settings"

doesn't this create complexity that can not be handled except by a 1000x monkeys that test every possible combination day and night? (before very new release)

just asking.

What do you propose as alternative solution?

only support latest debian (should work on ubuntu as well) and centos - heavy testing there (have it running with latest latest kernel under centos7 even inside docker) no further customizations of the install command line/script - reducing complexity. (i bet most combinations do not get tested anyway)

i bet this is what went wrong here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17414

worked fine for me under:

Code: Select all

hostnamectl; # give us some details
Operating System: CentOS Linux 7 (Core)
       CPE OS Name: cpe:/o:centos:centos:7
            Kernel: Linux 4.17.12

I agree that support should be dropped at sometime (for installation). I don't think that somebody today is going to install from scratch Ubuntu 12.04 for instance.

However, with the installation there are different variants. I for example don't use Apache at all. But many people do. Or on some servers I don't host email accounts, so why run SpamAssassin and ClamAV on these servers?

I also have a case that it is a mail server only. Why install MySQL etc?

no customization options, it makes things too complex = untestable, if you really want to customize vestacp - do it on your own - release a howto for others to follow.

example: i don't want roundcube, webmail is cool, but i am not using it, (without SSL nobody should use it) less software = more secure system.

here is how to do it:

Personally I disagree. For instance, Roundcube could be optional; however, I really like the flexibility of options with Vesta. If you ask me, there should be even more (ex. MariaDB as optional).
