When thinking about skateboarding, people usually think of skateparks with stunning performance but there are a huge number of skateboarders interested in commuting around on their cruiser boards or longboards. They can be either city commuters or long-distance travelers.

Different purposes in commuting on skateboards will have some specific requirements for the skateboards for the portability as well as stability of the ride. So how can skaters choose the right skateboard for commuting so that they can ride long distances with comfort? Let’s find out the answers in today’s thread.

KNOW WHICH TERRAIN YOU WANT TO SKATE ON

In longboarding, skaters need something maneuverable and responsive; therefore, they should avoid skating in crowded areas or near traffic because riders can easily hurt themselves and the surrounding people. Before putting your feet on a skateboard, remember to put on the helmet and other safety gear for your own safety.

In choosing suitable skateboards, the terrain is the number one factor that you have to consider. For instance, skating on rough asphalt requires big and soft wheels to provide excellent balance. Hence, riders can only choose either a longboard or a cruiser. In order to use big wheels, I suggest you should run with some riser pads.

WHY PENNY BOARDS ARE NOT PREFERABLE?

If you are new to skateboarding or longboarding, penny boards are not for you since they are unstable and not beginner-friendly. As long as you stay away from penny boards, your learning process will be much easier and less challenging. However, it is noticeable that these boards look great and last for a long time despite the uncomfortable feeling. Hence, in a discipline that requires a high level of stability like maneuvering, penny boards are not the wise choices.

WHICH BOARDS ARE FOR LONG DISTANCES ON A LEVEL GROUND?

The answer is definitely longboards since this type of skateboard provides excellent comfort for your ride and few problems are reported by skateboarders when using them for long-distance skating. Moreover, the cost of a decent longboard is just around 100 bucks so they are affordable for skaters with a tight budget.

An additional advantage of using longboards is that riders are able to switch to cruiser boards at any time. Moreover, longboards don’t have steep curves like smaller boards so beginners would be less worried when riding on them.

WHAT ABOUT CROWDED CITIES OR SHORT COMMUTING?

More and more people are taking up skateboarding as an alternative means of transport in big cities where traffic jams during rush hours become a nightmare. Due to the limited space, you properly need something responsive, lightweight, and portable. For this case, a longboard can become such a burden when you have to carry around the city a big and heavy board.

That is why mini-cruisers are so preferable by city skaters because they can be carried in your rucksack and they are also easy to pick up and carry. Well, when referring to “top the best skateboard for beginners” in big cities, a mini-cruiser is a potential candidate.

LONGBOARDS, CRUISER BOARDS, OR MINI-CRUISERS

Less force and momentum are needed to run a longboard so you may want to use this type for long-distance skating. With some decent wheels and bearings, your maneuver will become easier than ever. Moreover, skateboarders can still perform carving or even powerslides once they are familiar with their longboards.

A short distance of shorter than 4 miles is perfect for a cruiser board or a mini-cruiser. Both two kinds are suitable for skating in big cities where space is limited and portability is preferable. However, a normal cruiser board is a bit bigger than a mini-cruiser. As recommended by many cruisers, the Landyachtz Dinghy is the one that every cruiser must check out. Rather than this product, Landyachtz also produces the Landyachtz Tugboat which is also portable and able to offer a smooth ride.

CONCLUSION

For commuting in cities or for a long-distance, choosing the right kind of skateboard is not enough. Experienced skaters usually need to take extra care of the skateboard components such as bearings, trucks, wheels, and grip tapes. After all, before choosing any product, you must ask yourself three simple questions:

Where are you going to skate?
How far do you want to ride?
What tricks do you intend to do?
Although learning to skateboard will take you a while, it is more fun than catching a bus or riding a bike. Imagine how satisfying it is when you can avoid dense traffic on the way home after a hard day and enjoy nature at the same time.
