GUI File Manager / or VNC as root
Hi everyone,
I know File manager is in pipeline, but is there something gui I can use to manage my files (as root).
I was trying to install VNC - which I've successfully done but I could not access nautilus as ROOT so I may operate on all files whatsoever. please know that I'm aware of the risks, and I don't care -- I just need to operate fully on my OS, and manage files freely whenerver wanted.
any recommendations or pointers please ?

You need to lift the restrictions off the files so you can edit them. I am not sure what OS you are on but here is an example on Ubuntu:
Which will take all restrictions off that user so you can edit the stuff. To add back restrictions do
Chmod is a command for changing file permissions. The 777 pretty much let's you do anything you want. -R simply means you want the change to go into effect for all subdirectories of /home/user/web. Below removes write permissions for group and removes write positions for other people. -w means to take away the permission to write to the files, and +w would be the opposite.
Code: Select all
sudo chmod 777 -R /home/user/web
Code: Select all
sudo chmod g-w -R /home/user/web
sudo chmod o-w -R /home/user/web
