Awesome Control Panel
I just want to say thank you to the VestaCP staff. I ran into an issue getting Roundcube to work and the staff here went out of their way to help me. I am migrating from ZPanel to VestaCP because the ZPanel project is all but dead. Plus, VestaCP seems to be better built and have much better security.
I just wanted to post and say how impressed I am with VestaCP. I had one suggestion that always stops control panels from competing with CPanel and Plesk. Vesta is the only open source control panel I have seen that can compete with the commercial guys. It just needs one additional module:
+ ZPanel had a module that allowed the user to install different apps such as WordPress, Joomla, etc.
As stupid as it sounds, the average person now has no idea how to install WordPress as sad as it is and depends on installers to get it done. I would love to see an app installer for VestaCP like Plesk has. I know some people think this is a bad idea, however, the reality is most people aren't that technical and they can't figure out how to do it. Competing against CPanel and Plesk is tough without this feature. I know it can probably be written or scripted but I don't have the time or knowledge to do it and it needs to look super-professional.
VestaCP support and software is amazing and I think you are really going to pick up steam.

Oh, and one more point. If you run VestaCP and make money or depend on it, do the guys a favor and buy a support subscription to support them. Their pricing is more than fair and it will give them money to better develop this product for you. I personally am willing to pay for a subscription as long as it is reasonably priced. I have not purchased CPanel or Plesk because I think their pricing is unreasonable and their rules are ridiculous. My idea would be to give away the base control panel and charge for advanced modules like a WordPress installer or advanced management tools for user functions to make the user's life easier.
I would be more than happy to purchase advanced modules on top of a support subscription to help support this project. The more money you put into the project, the better enhancements and releases you will see. The firewall integration is incredible. Please support these guys so it can stay open source and they can devote more time and resources to development.
Open source is a great concept but the reality is that I have never been able to find a house with open source rental payments and development costs money and people have bills to pay. Even though the software is free, make sure you give back somehow if you want this software to stay open source.
This software is amazing for a free product and we need to support the project via cash or development time. I will be purchasing a support contract once I get my sites moved over and we pass our testing process. I am also willing to purchase advanced modules that makes anything easier for my users. My biggest request I get is installers to auto install applications.
Thanks to the VestaCP team!
Re: Awesome Control Panel
I couldn't agree more. vestaCP need automated script installation features.
Re: Awesome Control Panel
I use and enjoy Softaculous on cPanel. Their official answer as of July 2014 was http://www.softaculous.com/softaculous/remote - At first glance, it looks like a very viable solution.
