After update server is unreachable

Hi! This might not be VESTA CP related but i am clueless at the moment i really need some help from someone.
I use vesta cp on a vps and this week did my regular yum update. The problem is that after the update my vps is unreachable. The vps control panel says everything is running but can't reach vesta cp or use the shell.
My vps hosting says it is an issue with openvz because the yum updated centos to 6.5 and that will break the internal networking of the vps, thus explaining why i cant connect to it.
Has anyone ever faced this and what can i do to resolve this?
