Setup OWN DNS for mail server

Hello,

I would like to know how to setup my own dns so that I can setup a pop3 mail server. Does anyone know how to do this?

do you mean to setup your own ns1.yourdomain.com and like wise...

you first need to register it with your domain service provider and than you can update it in vestacp...

I read this and it does not work. Any other ideas. I really do not need own names servers. I actually followed the documentation to including the Godaddy setup and no luck.

No response...Seems typical of the entire forum. Not sure why the Vesta folks even have it. I noticed almost 70% of the forum notes are not answered. My customers hate this control Panel. Buying cPanel. Now I know why it is number one. The amount of time I have spend figuring out the mail is far more than the $400 cPanel charges. More than happy to pay for it.

Goto your domain Registrar and select use my own name servers ns1.domain.com ns2.domain.com , lets assume you are using the same IP which you are running the vesta CP on for both.

2) Goto vesta panel , login , create a new user.

3) Edit the user and provide the ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com in the default name server's field.

4) If you are going to host a web , click the web at the top and and enter your domain , check the mail and dns option

5) Click the DNS at the top. list the records

6) create a new A record. type ns1 ( the domain will auto be used ) , in the IP give the server ip , do the same for ns2.

7) Click Mail , Add email account > Domain is selected already and now add the email you want to add , just put the user and select password.

8) Make sure you have set the correct rDNS (ptr) for your ip for the domain you wish to use mail for.

ALL done. open domain.com/webmail , try logging in and sending a test email.

If you dont need your own DNS then just create the respective A record for domain and the MX record etc and it would work.

Being rude about this panel will not help?

ROOT DNS is nothing to do with this panel or cpanel
DNS is what you set at your isp your host where you have the Domain name registered
Again NOTHING to do with your panel

when ns1 and ns2 are set then the panel can control the dns
If you want to use a different server for email you simply go to DNS look and see mx record and change that make an A record of the ip of the mail server yourself panels are not humans mate you have to learn how to do DNS

Hey dummy, what part of "OWN" did you not understand? This is about running your own DNS server within VestaCP and setting the proper MX record which is not possible with vesta. If you want the mx record of domain.name to be domain.name it can't do it. The silly thing duplicates the domain name and the mx record becomes "domain.name.domain.name".

So dumb.
