Can't send or receive mail?
Can't send or receive mail?
Hi,
I would appreciate any help, my server currently can not send or receive any mail, I have spent hours trying to find information on how to deal with this but no joy, I don't even know where to start.
Exim and Dovecot are installed and running. Where to start to diagnose the issue?

Re: Can't send or receive mail?
is your smtp port open/reachable? (e.g. not blocked by your host)
and how are you trying to send and receive mails and what error messages do you get as a sender from the server or what bounce messages do you get while trying sending to the server?
to read those error messages would probably a proper starting point ;-)
furthermore check your dns/mx entries, look into mail.log etc.

Re: Can't send or receive mail?
HI,
Thanks for the response, I have re-installed and now have some email functionality although my emails going out are being blocked by gmail with the response:
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
[email protected]
SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data:
host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [2a00:1450:400c:c07::1b]:

Do you know how I can resolve this issue please?

Re: Can't send or receive mail?
you can disable ipv6... Exim doesn't play well with it
Mailing is indeed a very complicated procedure... please use search function to read some previous detailed threads.
On Top - just send a mail to mail-tester.com to start with.

Re: Can't send or receive mail?
Thanks, I will try and figure it out, after further testing it would seem that I can't send mail either.
