Apostrophe (single quote) in Forward To address

An email address in "Forward To", that includes a single quote (eg david.o'[email protected]) breaks the creation of a new email account.
Technically any of ! # $ % & ' * + - / = ? ^ _ ` { | should be allowable.
I cannot do anything to change the destination email address.
Anyone know of a solution or workaround for this?
