Change the password on an email address can’t receive emails anymore

Two days ago I changed the password for an email account and every since the password had been changed, I can no longer send or receive emails but when I did a restore after it was successful I then get a flood of emails that I guess have been caught up somewhere.

I decided to create a new email address send myself a few emails and I successfully received them including successfully sending them but as soon as I change the password in the control panel for the email address that is when the emails stop, can’t receive, can’t send so somewhere they are getting hung up.

What can I do? How can I resolve this issue?
