Dovecot at version 2.0.x when 2.1.x exists - should update?

Hi there,
I was trying to configure Dovecot for automatic folder creation and I found this page http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Autocreate which then points to http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxSettings.
The first link is for 2.0.x and lower but it has since been deprecated with the use of the functionality found on the second link for 2.1.x versions of Dovecot.
Before I start setting up all these folders in one method, is it wise to update Dovecot to 2.1.x or will this break compatibility with Vesta?
The current version of Dovecot installed by Vesta is 2.0.9 on CentOS 6.5.
