Creating nameservers for a server with Vesta
Creating nameservers for a server with Vesta
Hi,
i have tried some panels for nginx and Vesta seems to work ok for me.
I have one dedicated server with one IP address. I want to put some sites on it. In order to be loaded from my server, a site must have some nameservers at the registrar, so i think i should register (create) 2 nameservers.
- i will add ns1.mysite.com, ns2.mysite.com at DNS in Vesta panel, both pointing to my server IP
- at the registrar i will register 2 nameservers ns1.mysite.com, ns2.mysite.com pointing to the same IP address
- i add in Vesta > Web a new site mysite2.com with those nameservers
- in 24h the site should work (the DNS server will look at the nameservers entered at registrar and will serve the site from that IP)
Am i right?

Re: Creating nameservers for a server with Vesta
Seems legit.
That is a procedure.
Only possible point-of-failure is if Vesta can not setup DNS, but I didn't see that someone had such problem.

Re: Creating nameservers for a server with Vesta
For testing i have a digitalocean vps and i have nameservers from them : ns1.digitalocean.com, ns2.digitalocean.com, ns3.digitalocean.com
I reinstalled and tested different Linux flavors, now i cannot put the test domain live mysite.com
- I have changed at the registrar the nameservers to ns1.digitalocean.com, ns2.digitalocean.com, ns3.digitalocean.com, without setting any IP.
- I have added the hostname and the domain with these nameservers in Vesta panel, yesterday, but the site does not load.
What am i missing? Thanks

Thanks for answer. I will consider Cloudflare. Now i want to experiment a little bit.

In your case, I would strongly advise you to use free services offered by Cloudflare.com. You could open an account with Cloudflare.com, add site as your domain.com and, thereafter, enter the two nameservers given by Cloudflare.com with your registrar.
With Cloudflare.com, you will have a very secured domain name servers with them, which will also include free CDN services and a firewall outside your vesta server. Then, you will not have any headaches any more of maintaining your nameservers. With this, your DNS will have Anycast features too and all DNS queries will be extremely fast.
If you choose Cloudflare.com, then the nameserver entries in the vesta server becomes irrelevant.
BTW, (I think) DigitalOcean uses Cloudflare services.
