Setup NS on vestacp on a digital ocean droplet

Hi

Im trying to Setup vestacp on a droplet of DO. Since DO dont provide 2 ips to there droplets how can it be possible to Use my own ns records on my vestacp? I need to Point ns1 and ns2 to the vestacp config right?

Because I want to manage all DNS from the vestacp and not the DO DNS panel.

Have any body setup NS on a droplet in DO?

Thanks for help

/mike

You don't need a separate IP for each NS record. When both IPs are pointing to the same server then it will not make any difference to the reliability.

So that you are saying that booth ns1 and ns2 shall have the same ip?

Yes, unless you are using DNS clustering (distributed DNS) with multiple servers, using the same IP for both NS records is correct. Of course this means there is no point in having two NS records except that there is a DNS requirement of a minimum of two NS records for a domain.

There may be a couple of cases where the reliability is slightly higher by assigning different IPs to each NS record when both those IPs point to the same server, but it would be pretty rare.

Of course you would get better DNS reliability by having multiple DNS servers at different datacentres or using another service that does.

Okay, got it. Actually I have two server in DO so I will setup n2 to the smaller machine to work as cluster or slave what is the best way in your thinking?

I'm just trying out VestaCP at the moment so I'm not sure how it handles DNS clustering.
