Yep, so config say - /etc/apache2/conf.d/phpmyadmin.conf or (httpd in centos)

I was thinking wouldn't be even better if we disable access to /phpmyadmin at nginx level to anything but localhost
and then ssh tunnel to it?

Occam's razor against this ;-)
More things should not be used than are necessary.
