Is it possible to add AliSQL as another database server software?
Re: Is it possible to add AliSQL as another database server software?
You cant install mariadb if you not remove mysql.
Purge and uninstall are diferent things, when you uninstall mysql for example, maybe you understand remove as purge I dont know ( my English is bad sorry )
yum remove mysql-server
you not touch /var/lib/mysql ( nothing was deleted )
Of course you need do a backup, always need a backups.
But you can uninstall mysql-server and then install mariadb
You can replace mysql whit mariadb whit this procedure:
First do a backup
service mysqld stop
yum remove mysql-server mysql-client mysql-libs
yum install MariaDB-server MariaDB-client
service mysql start
chkconfig mysql on
mysql_upgrade
Is imposible install mariadb if you have mysql installed
You can see official instruccions in mariadb site:
https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/upgra ... o-mariadb/

Within the same base version (for example 5.5) you can just uninstall MySQL and install MariaDB and you are good to go. There is no need to dump and restore databases. As with any upgrade, we recommend making a backup of your data beforehand.

Re: Is it possible to add AliSQL as another database server software?
I never meant you can
I meant to say you should not uninstall existing mysql, just should install over the existing one.
I think I've done this on CentOS 6.x a number of times though I rarely use CentOS... so not sure if this changed now. Also the link you reffered is for windows, I can't find a ref. to CentOS there at a glance
However,
On Debian 6,7,8 I never uninstall or remove or purge MySQL, I just install mariadb on top of the install and it replaces the MySQL engine

apt-get or aptitude just do the work, so uninstall mysql and install mariadb in the same waymehargags wrote:I never meant you can

Thanks for detailed explanation @skamasle. Appreciate your know-how on CentOS... I'm not much familiar with Redhat systems!
