magento 2.3.0 on latest vesta install

Hello,
I am trying to install magento 2.3.0 on my ubuntu 18.04 box and it does install after some fiddling.
needed to install php-bcmath and php-soap. When I try to login on the admin page I get "An error has happened during application run. See exception log for details."
page loads really slow and it pretty much stuck there. I am also using Grav and it does not have any problems loading or using lets encrypt.
bash vst-install.sh --nginx yes --apache yes --phpfpm no --named yes --remi yes --vsftpd no --proftpd no --iptables yes --fail2ban yes --quota no --exim yes --dovecot yes --spamassassin yes --clamav yes --softaculous yes --mysql yes --postgresql no --hostname nyx.fatalxerror.org --email [email protected] --password Yes Password
This was done on a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04 on AWS. is there a workaround for this?
