Install on unclean server

Hello all,

Looking at installing Vesta, currently using VirtualMin. I don't really know why as I've never liked it. Used to use CWP but switched from Centos to Ubuntu.

Anyway, as I mentioned I already have VirtualMin installed. I also have a few apps (plex & transmission etc...)

I've stopped mysql and virtualmin and the apps I have installed still run so I don't think deleting any databases will affect the apps.

When installing Vesta I assume it would only delete the /home partition and not any system files or the /media partition. Therefore the only thing I would lose are websites.

Am I correct in thinking that or is there a risk that it will kill my apps?

I'm not entirely bothered if it does lol the apps, just wanna know what I'm letting myself in for.

I would be bothered if for dinner reason it deleted the files in my /media partition though...

Thanks. Pete.

I would not recommend installing Vesta in a non-clean server, however, if you do it, please do not install Vesta, is not updated and has been ages since last time it was updated.

You can take a look at these forks: https://www.myvestacp.com/ and https://hestiacp.com/. MyVestaCP is just like Vesta, updated frequently with security measures but not many new features, HestiaCp has added quite a lot of features. Both good tho.

Oh ok. Cheers for that.

Why wouldn't you install it on an unclean server? What's it likely to break?

I assume the two alternatives carry the same risks?

Vesta installs by it self Apache2 and all the other packages and my remove all the sites / databases and so on first. Clean server is always advised...
