[SOLVED] Exim4 not receving mail (sending works, DNS checked, port 25 open, exim4 listener)
Hey there,
The following issue is bugging me for a few days now: I'm unable to receive mail on my server.
- Double checked all DNS settings, MX setup
- Passing MX test on MXtoolbox
- But failing SMTP connection (timeout)
- Firewall (iptables) has default configuration
- Only added some 'output' rules for resolving the problem of not being able to do outbound DNS lookups
- Expecting traffic to be able to get through, with exim4 listening on port 25 (exim log)
- And also on the server you see exim listening to port 25
- Exim4 has default configuration, from fresh install
Also tried disabling iptables & fail2ban, should allow all traffic to get through, but still getting the connection timeout on port 25. Could it be something really obvious I'm missing here? Running on Ubuntu 18.04, latest updates installed.
Any help is appreciated, thanks a lot! :)

Re: Exim4 not receving mail (sending works, DNS checked, port 25 open, exim4 listener)
Solved: I totally missed the fact that DigitalOcean also had a firewall running which was blocking SMTP connections to my server. Once I disabled this additional firewall, it all worked like a charm.
