cPanel replacement
cPanel replacement
Hi Everyone
I'm a php developer and I know Linux basics, but I'm new to VPS, and I need to make a choice from shared-hosting to VPS:
1. Let the hosting team move all my domains +emails and install cPanel (for 30d - then I install Vesta)
2. Do the transfer myself, and install Vesta
They say if I choose #1, I may get some conflicts when I install Vesta
Do we have a guide on how to do #2 ?
Installing Vesta should not be a problem, but I never transferred domains and emails from shared-hosting to a VPS
Please advise
Many thanks

Re: cPanel replacement
I think option 2 is much better and allows you to migrate one domain at a time.
There is no such thing as a 100% migration guide.
In short, you need to create DNS zones, copy web applications, import databases, copy emails (using imapsync, for example) and finally change DNS.
If you don't have technical knowledge about this, I recommend seeking expert help.

Re: cPanel replacement
Thanks Sandro
this post is quite old , and I agree with #2
Meantime I've installed Vesta , moved some domains there until I got stuck with 'named dns service' refusing to restart.
Tried most of the solutions around the whole weekend. Nothing worked.
So, I've deleted CentOS 7 + Vesta, and installed AaPanel on CentOS 8 - I'm quite happy with it (sorry).
I still think Vesta is one of the best alternatives to cPanel
Many thanks,

Interesting to know you are using aaPanel, it would be nice to know what you think of it.

I think aaPanel is much better than Vesta
It includes free tools like File Manager and an App store where you can install many other tools for free
The installation took only 3mins , is compatible with CentOS 8 and the documentation is fine.
For a free tool is a great option
