POP/SMTP

So what's the standard POP/SMTP Settings to use Outlook or Thunderbird, I ask as I'm not sure if i should use the encryption STARTTLS and encrypt password or not.

Incoming and outgoing servers are just your domain name. Thread also suggests using SSL, and port 465 to send (in case your ISP is blocking the default).

It's almost as well as guidance from mail.ru, it is available on Aders https://help.mail.ru/mail-help/mailer/mo
only difference is in the second paragraph:
Incoming mail server - vashserver.ru
Server Outgoing mail (SMTP) - vashserver.ru
User - имяпользователя@вашсервер.ru
Password -

I'm sure between exim4 and dovecot config files the answer is available with some digging. Perhaps someone with deep knowledge could post to this thread where to look in one's system to get/edit these server settings.
