community support: success or fail of an open source project

It's clear that one of the most important aspect to consider when choosing an open source project for Your own purposes, is the vitality of the community support provided around the open source script.
VestaCp seems very promising, but in my opinion the community providing support is quite latent. You can check by yourself inside this forum: many threads with interesting questions receives lot of views, but no replies. Other important threads are not updated since some time.
I personally partecipated to a thread regarding spam assassin, and i have to admit the received support was not project-specific, instead quite generic and not totally coherent.
That's my two cents.
