Upgrade Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 fails

When I attempt to upgrade I get errors about vesta apt sources.
Looking at /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vesta.list there is one line item:
deb http://apt.vestacp.com/precise/ precise vesta
When I update /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vesta.list from /precise/ to /trusty/ the upgrade continues but has a fatal error at the very end. Checking the version shows 14.04 but apache won't start and complains about the custom vesta includes and virtualhosts.
I chose to not overwrite my configs since there is considerable modifications to lean up my stack.
Am I going about this the right way?
