FTP directory listing cannot be done after NEW UPDATE
  • Quote

Post by cagatay » Sat Oct 25, 2014 10:36 am

I updated vesta couple days ago.

First we had firewall start issue. It seems solved now after doing one more update.

Now I noticed when I ftp, I can login but I can't see directory contents (waits, give timeout)

Using debian7 64 bit

Everybody who updated vesta lately (not fresh install) please login ftp and see if you are having issues like me.

Please login through FTP and try to browse directories and files.

My issue is; directories and files are not listed. I can login but can't see directory and file. then I get timeout.

Is your ftp client using active or passive mode to connect?

I use filezilla, I don't know it's default.

but now I tried from microsoft command line ftp client, it works.

before update, I could easily connect/download/upload/browse through filezilla. now I can't.

let me check what will happen in filezilla between active/passive modes.

but I assume this is a bug.

only active mode works in filezilla. passive mode doesn't work.

In passive mode the client initiates both data and command connections to the server. Probably your firewall is blocking a request. I bet if you set a rule allowing all traffic to and from your home/office IP or when you stop iptables, all of the sudden ftp will work again.

let's see if other users report similar issues.

I have no firewall, no antivirus on my computer and I did no changes on vesta firewall.

Imho a configuration error is not a software bug. Still, it can be annoying, but this issue has nothing to do with Vesta. Stop iptables and ftp will function correctly.

Luckily I have a digitalocean snapshot I took before I did the vesta upgrade. if things go crazy, I will roll back to old vesta.
