Хостер или провайдер, предоставивший IP адрес для сервера должен или сказать как настроить PTR запись или предоставить возможность настроить ее самому. Многие почтовые службы не будут принимать почту от серверов, для IP-адреса которых не установлен PTR. Часто бывает также, что почта не будет приниматься и даже при настроенной PTR записи, если она имеет бессмысленный вид типа 123.12.13.15-ppoe.your.isp.com - т.е. если сервер находится дома, а не в каком-то дата-центре. Не знаю насчет gmail, но практика показывает, что mail.ru не работает с серверами с такими доменными именами.
